Stephen Ladyman, the MP for South Thanet has won an adjournment debate in the House of Commons to discuss the way the Gambling Act has impacted on seaside
amusement arcades and coin-operated machine manufacturers.
"Seaside arcades are suffering and that means that businesses that make machines like Harry Levy automatics in my constituency are also suffering. I want to
raise the issue of how one of the unintended consequences of the Gambling Act is allowing bookmakers to attract adult gamblers away from arcades and the adult section of the arcades. As a result
the arcade and family amusement business are suffering."
The half hour debate will be on Friday 22nd February in the main chamber of the House of Commons.
Stephen also raised the issue with the Leader of the House, Harriet Harman, during the weekly Business Statement.
"I asked her to allow a debate on the wider issues of the Gambling Act and she responded by saying that she was positive about the idea of a debate on
seaside towns later in the year. That will be a big help too and I'm pleased with her response."
"This is about vital jobs and the traditions of the seaside. I very much hope that as a result of these debates we can get the Minister to look into what is
happening in this industry."
