Free chess sets for schools

South Thanet MP urges local Schools to take advantage of free chess set offer. Holloid Plastics Ltd is sponsoring 250,000 chess sets to be distributed free to schools throughout England, in an effort to promote young people’s interest in chess.

Steve today urged South Thanet’s schools to take advantage of the offer by applying through his office in Ramsgate.

Steve said,

‘The English Chess Federation has already received over 230 requests from schools for these chess sets. I remember when I was at school we used to play chess during rainy lunchtimes and have competitive chess matches in the evenings. It’s a rewarding and fun game to learn, and I’d urge South Thanet’s Schools to take full advantage’.

Holloid made the offer at a recent meeting in the House of Commons. The distribution will be made in parcels of 10 chess sets on a first come first served basis.
