The Uk's Freight Transport Association has organised an All Party Parliamentary Freight Transport Group, which held its first meeting in the House of Commons last week. The meeting heard a presentation on green logistics from Matthew Rhind, regional transport manager with supermarket chain Tesco. The group will meet three or four times each year to discuss a range of freight issues.
The new Group has been set up to ensure MPs and Lords understand the challenges facing the freight industry. The Group will not restrict itself to any one transport mode or to any one part of the supply chain but will look at the issues affecting road, rail, sea and air and the Groups remit will include ports and warehousing as well as transport.
Steve set the Group up after discussions with the Freight Transport Association and the FTA will provide secretarial assistance and advice.
